Children’s Courtroom

From Constitution Hill, Johannesburg; to Spar parking lot – corner Hospital Street, Limpopo

A set of furniture elements which form the fundamentals of courtroom furniture and statutory pieces in space were conceptualised as a mobile installation, based predominantly for use at Constitution Hill. The entry into the court is also celebrated with an entry arch, the set comprising of public gallery seating, seating for the accused, a witness stand, defendant’s stand and judge’s table. The installation is developed to familiarise children with the workings of law, rights, equality and court processes, and may also be used as a device to prepare children who may be involved in actual court proceedings to understand the process and their rights and responsibilities.
