Developed within a limited amount of time, Counterspace provided bid visualizations for a museum space at the Constitution Hill complex, Johannesburg. The initial design provides for a vertical hanging system under which historical articles would be arranged in a particular layout, to unravel a set of symbolic cues in a set narrative timeline. The articles would be experienced viscerally, as a visitor walks through, under and between them, eventually unraveling a particular story as they are each, in turn, revealed. Digital lighting elements depict particular thematic ‘territories’ on the ground, encircling particular groupings of articles. Whispers of audible narratives are paralleled in projected elements, and moving shadows of lighted articles, as perceived on the museums surrounding walls.
